What you need to know about healthcare open enrollment

The individual market open enrollment period for healthcare has begun. If you didn’t like your plan last year or you’re enrolling for the first time, LDS Hospital and Heidi Castenada from SelectHealth are here to give you tips. If you already have a SelectHealth Individual plan, it will likely renew automatically but now is a good time to make sure you’re on a plan that meets your needs. Open enrollment runs from Nov. 1, 2017 to Dec. 15, 2017.

If you’re looking to change your plan, there is a lot to consider. Take into consideration who the provider network is, what your medical and pharmacy expenses are and how much can afford. It’s helpful to sit face-to-face with an agent or talk with the sales team about your questions before you fully commit to a plan.

Healthcare is expensive and costs are continuing to rise. But there are many resources available that can make health coverage more affordable. Depending on your income, you may qualify for a monthly subsidy that can reduce your monthly premium. Also, some people may qualify for a cost-sharing reduction. This can reduce deductibles and copays. Be sure to review all metal tier options, because some silver plans are experiencing higher than normal premiums.
