There are many factors that can affect our skin health such as sleep, diet, exercise and genetics. Luckily, there are a number of great options for skin care. Sarah Olsen, master esthetician from Utah Facial Plastics, joined us to discuss the benefits of chemical peels.

Many people worry that chemical peels are painful, but according to Sarah it only feels like a tingling. There may be slight discomfort depending on the strength of the peel and the number of “passes” along the skin. Despite having the word “chemical” in the name, they are much easier to tolerate than many other options that require topical numbing, such as micro-needling or laser treatments.

When done right by a certified professional, chemical peels are completely safe and effective in producing healthier, brighter skin. Chemical peels have been around for a long time and are a tried and true treatment for skin health.

Chemical peels can help with a variety of  skin conditions, such as pigmentation, fine lines, skin texture and tone. They come in varying strentghs of light, mid-depth, and deep chemical peels.

Sarah typically recommends a series of chemical peels for full correction. Anywhere from 3-6 is the typical treatment amount, spaced one month apart. The downtime depends on the strength of the peel and how many passes are made on the skin.

It’s best to avoid the sun for a few weeks so it’s good to do it before summertime. Utah Facial Plastics also has a buy two get one free special for chemical peels happening right now.
