We all know what happens when we get older, our skin loses elasticity and tone resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. Along with that, our face can become thin which can lead to some drooping. Now if you’d like to put up the defense against these things, eyelid surgery or a brow lift may be a good option for you.

Dr. Dana Johns, MD, from University of Utah Health joined us to share details about both. She explained that a blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid lift surgery) can help remove and correct puffiness, bags under the eyes, droopy eyelids and vision impairments. Brow lifts, or forehead lifts, reduce the appearance of wrinkle lines on your forehead and can also correct the following:

  • Sagging brows or deep furrows between your eyes
  • Lines on the bridge of your nose and between the eyes
  • Vision impairment

Dr. Johns shared that there are two different types of brow lifts. The Open Brow Lift and Endoscopic Brow Lift.

  1. Open Brow Lift
    • Incision is made just in front of your hairline or an inch behind your hairline to hide the scar.
    • Skin is lifted and elevated upward, raising your brow and tightening the skin on your forehead.
    • Extra skin is removed.
  2. Endoscopic Brow Lift
    • Three small incisions are made just behind the hairline.
    • A camera on a scope and absorbable plates are used to pull and secure your skin, raising your brown and tightening the skin on your forehead.
    • Extra skin is removed.
