This week, September 23- 29 is Child Passenger Safety Week, Janet Brooks of Zero Fatalities joined us to demonstrate how to make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed and to help educate the public on why this is such a big deal. Their slogan ‘Zero Fatalities’ is the only goal we can all live with AND agree with.

Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children under 13. Parents may think that they have installed their child’s car seats correctly, but nearly 6 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly. In 2016 car seats saved approximately 328 lives in children under 5. However, 370 children could have been saved if they had buckled up 100% of the time.

The 4 most common errors when buckling up kids are:

  1. The wrong harness slot was used in both rear and forward-facing restraints
  2.  The retainer/chest clip was not properly positioned
  3. The child safety seat was loose
  4. The harness strap was loose
