5 Instant Pot Oatmeal Variations

Sometimes breakfast can be boring, especially if it is something you eat every day. Lisa Childs joined us in the kitchen to show how to shake up boring old oatmeal and better yet, doing it in minutes with an Instant Pot! 

Basic Instant Pot Oatmeal

Ingredients: 

  • 2 cups regular rolled oats
  • 4 cups water
  • One bowl of basic Instant Pot oatmeal
  • Dash of salt

Directions: 

  1. Add water to the Instant Pot, then the oats and salt. Do not stir. 
  2. Cook on manual high pressure for 1-2 minutes, followed by a quick pressure release. If oatmeal starts coming out of the sealing pin, close the valve and release the pressure in short bursts. You may also use 5 cups of water if you like it extra soft.
  3. Dish up each bowl and add milk and sugar to taste

Luxurious Bruleed Oatmeal

Ingredients: 

  • 2-4 T. cream or milk
  • ½ T. butter
  • ⅛ tsp vanilla
  • 2-3 T. brown sugar
  • Strawberries
  • Coconut
  • Granola
  • One bowl of basic Instant Pot oatmeal

Directions: 

  1. Add butter and vanilla to a hot bowl of Instant Pot oatmeal
  2. Stir in milk or cream to your desired consistency
  3. Sprinkle brown sugar over the top, and evenly brulee with a kitchen torch until caramelized
  4. Enjoy with fresh strawberries, granola, and flaked coconut

Berries and Cream Oatmeal

Ingredients: 

  • 2-4 T. cream or milk
  • Handful of frozen berries
  • One bowl of basic Instant Pot oatmeal

Directions: 

  1. Add a handful of frozen berries into the hot oatmeal
  2. Mix to completely cover the berries, then let stand for 3-5 minutes
  3. Stir, then top with additional milk to your preferred consistency
  4. Add a drizzle of honey or some brown sugar to sweeten, if you like

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip

Ingredients: 

  • One bowl of basic Instant Pot oatmeal
  • 2-4 T. cream or milk
  • 2 tbsp pumpkin puree
  • 1 tbsp mini chocolate chips
  • ⅛ tsp vanilla
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon 
  • Sprinkle of nutmeg
  • Sprinkleof extra sugar, if needed

Directions: 

  1. Stir the pumpkin puree, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the hot oatmeal
  2.  Add milk to the consistency you prefer
  3. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, then let stand for about 30-45 seconds and gently swirl the chocolate on top. If the chocolate doesn’t add enough sweetness for you, add sweetener of your choice.

Peanut Butter Banana

Ingredients:

  • One bowl of basic Instant Pot oatmeal
  • ½ banana, mashed
  • 2-4 T. cream or milk
  • ½ T. peanut butter

Directions:

  1. In a serving bowl, mash half the banana with a fork.
  2. Add the hot oatmeal addpeanut butter on top, then stir. 
  3. Add milk or cream to your preferred consistency
  4. If the banana doesn’t add enough sweetness for you, add sweetener of your choice.

Coconut Cream

Ingredients: 

  • One bowl of basic Instant Pot oatmeal
  • 2-4 T. cream or milk
  • ½ T. Butter
  • 1-2 tbsp cream of coconut
  • Toasted coconut flakes

Directions: 

  1. Add all ingredients but toasted coconut flakes to a serving bowl and stir
  2. Add additional cream of coconut for extra sweetness, if desired
  3. Top with toasted coconut flakes
