The dangers of henna body art

GTU Featured Guest

Henna is an ancient and joyous tradition of natural body adornment but it can result in serious consequences if done with a chemical henna cone.

Hoku Tenneke, owner of Hokulani Henna, joined us to explain that henna paste should include only natural ingredients; most commonly henna leaf powder, sugar, skin-safe essential oils, and lemon juice or water.

She shared more about the history of henna and the proper aftercare required to get a good stain. Hoku will be sharing her henna talent at this weekend’s FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention. Stop by her booth (number 1443 on the vendor floor) at the Salt Palace Convention Center April 19 and 20. Doors are open from 11:00am- 8:00pm on Friday and 10:00am- 7:00pm on Saturday.

If you would like to do your own henna at home, use code ‘GOODTHINGS’ on her website hokulanihenna.com for 15% off fresh natural henna cones. See more of Hoku’s work on Instagram @hokulanihenna .
