The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is back!

GTU Featured Guest

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer. Although it sounds like a running event, Relay For Life is actually a walk, and anyone can participate.

People form teams and raise money leading up to the event. Then, everyone comes together for a night of fun that celebrates cancer survivors, remembers loved ones lost to cancer, and unites us in our commitment to fight back against the disease.

Catina Struble, American Cancer Society Community Development Manager, is in the GTU studio spreading the awareness and asking for your love and support!

There will be five events across the state this year starting in May and ending in July Box Elder, Weber-Davis County, Salt Lake City, Unitah Basin, Cache County. There will be an opening ceremony where we will honor cancer survivors and the luminaria ceremony at dark will remember those we lost to cancer and honor survivors. Candles in paper bags will line the track and the lights will be dimmed for this special ceremony.

Funds raised through Relay For Life are helping the American Cancer Society to be there for those affected by cancer. The Society supports those dealing with a cancer diagnosis currently, those who may face a diagnosis in the future, and those who may avoid it all together because of education and risk reduction.

The American Cancer Society funds groundbreaking cancer research in Utah. The Society is currently funding 10 multi-year grants totaling over $5.1 million.

This is a wonderful and life changing program! The American Cancer Society provides many programs and services including transportation to treatment and lodging at our Hope Lodge for those who need to travel away from home for treatment. They are also available is 24/7 at cancer.org or 1-800-227-2345.

So get your friends and family together to form a team or if you are a cancer survivor, join in on this amazing fundraiser. Each of the events will have a variety of food, activities, and entertainment to keep participants going the entire time!

Relays across Utah begin on May 18 and volunteers are needed! So if interested or looking for more inforation visit relayforlife.org
