Salt Lake Acting Company’s newest production, Silent Dancer, officially opened on April 12. Cynthia, Director, Christopher Choreographer and Mikki Reeve, lead actress, joined us to share the inspiration behind the play and give us a sneak peek of one of the scenes!
Christopher was the Principal Dancer at Ballet West for 21 seasons and has taken on Silent Dancer as his first major project since announcing his retirement from Ballet West.
Cynthia was a longtime fan of Christopher’s work and had him at the top of her wishlist when it came to choreograph. She never thought he would say yes, but he understood the project immediately and was on board.
Also on board was local playwright Kathleen Cahill, who wrote the play. Kathleen and Cynthia wanted to tell a story in which characters had to use movement to further the action and story. The team even coined the phrase “choreotext.”
“It’s an entirely original story that weaves several real, larger-than-life, historical figures into a fictional plot,” said Christopher. See it for yourself! The play runs through May 12th.
