Did you know that 20% of Utahns struggle to afford food every year? Rob Adams, the founder of Thanksgiving’s Heroes, came on the show to talk about his personal story of going hungry as a child and how you can kick off the season of giving by volunteering to deliver food to the doorstep of a family in need.
As someone who has experienced the hardships of growing up without knowing when his next meal was going to come, Rob created a non-profit event called Thanksgiving’s Heroes where families, teams, companies and friends around the community come together to donate money and deliver food to families in desperate need this holiday season.
With each $80 donation, Thanksgiving’s Heroes provides each of these items to a hungry family:
- 15-20 lbs turkey
- 20 lbs of potatoes
- Gravy
- Stuffing
- Cranberry sauce
- Green bean casserole
- Rolls
- Veggie tray
- Milk
- Butter
- Olives
- Sparkling cider
- Pumpkin pie
The goal this year is to feed 2,500 families for Thanksgiving that otherwise could not afford to eat. Last year, thanks to the help of the community, Rob was able to feed over 800 families. Volunteer on the big day and your heart will be filled with gratitude and love all day long.
The event is on Saturday, November 17 with shifts starting at 7a.m. and will last until food is gone. Thanksgivng’s Heroes is located at the Old Sports Authority in South Jordan.
