ABC 4’s resident movie critic, Tony Toscano, was here with his Oscars predictions for 2019. This year’s show will air here on ABC4 this Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 6 P.M. MST.

The nominees are as follows:

Best Supporting Actress:

Amy Adams, “Vice” 
Marina De Tavira, “Roma” 
Regina King, “If Beale Street Could Talk” 
Emma Stone, “The Favourite” 
Rachel Weisz, “The Favourite”

Tony’s prediction: “The award will go to Regina King for her performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk”

Best Supporting Actor:

Mahershala Ali, “Green Book” 
Adam Driver, “BlacKkKlansman”
Sam Elliot, “A Star is Born” 
Richard E. Grant, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” 
Sam Rockwell, “Vice”

Tony’s prediction: “Everyone is talking about Richard E. Grant’s performance in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?  He says, I think the gold will go to Mahershala Ali for “Green Book.”

Best Actress:

Yalitza Aparicio, “Roma”
Glenn Close, “The Wife” 
Olivia Colman, “The Favourite” 
Lady Gaga, “A Star is Born” 
Melissa McCarthy, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”

Tony’s prediction: “Out of these five incredible performances, it was Glenn Close’s that was in a league by herself.”

Best Actor:

Christian Bale, “Vice” 
Bradley Cooper, “A Star is Born” 
Willem Dafoe, “At Eternity’s Gate” 
Rami Malek, “Bohemian Rhapsody”
Viggo Mortensen, “Green Book”

Tony’s prediction: “It’s really too close to call, I am caught between Christian Bale’s performance in “Vice,” and Rami Malek’s Freddy Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”… I think Christian Bale will win, but my heart is with Rami Malek.”

Best Picture:

“BlacKkKlansman” 
“Black Panther” 
“Bohemian Rhapsody” 
“The Favourite” 
“Green Book” 
“Roma” 
“A Star is Born” 
“Vice”

Tony’s prediction: “And the best picture Oscar will go to “Roma” with Alfonso Cuaron getting a best director statue.”
