Congresswoman Mia Love joined GTU with a preview of the Congressional Women’s Softball Game in honor of breast cancer survivors. Joining her is local cancer survivor Lindsay Nunez, Julie Chaffetz, the wife of Congressman Chaffetz.
Since her election in 2014, Congresswoman Love has joined her female colleagues from both chambers and both parties to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. The Women’s Congressional Softball Game is more than just a game. It is coming together to fight for all of those women who are already fighting for their lives.
As she did last year, the Congresswoman will be playing on behalf of a Utahn who has fought breast cancer. This year, the Congresswoman is humbled to play on behalf of Lindsay Nunez. Lindsay was diagnosed with breast cancer as a young woman expecting a child.
Lindsay is not alone. According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 12.4% of women nationwide will be diagnosed with breast cancer.1 Tragically, NIH also estimates that breast cancer will claim the lives of approximately 40,610 women in 2017.2 Lindsay is an example of how early detection saved not only her life, but the life of her infant.
The game will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Washington D.C. Lindsay and her family will also be present.
