Local mom of five, Chamaine Wollenzien, joined us to share her top three family friendly waterfall hikes that are perfect for your family to get out and enjoy this summer.
- Scout Falls
- Scout Falls is a rewarding and fun hike for families located along the Alpine Loop. Scout Falls trail is part of the larger Timpooneke Trail – which can lead to the summit of Mt. Timpanogos. Scout Falls is often shaded and even parts are paved. It’s 1.5 miles one way. The waterfall is huge with spring run off, but even late in the summer, you’ll be pleased as punch with the waterfall.
Calf Creek Falls
This is located just outside of Escalante and is often found on hikers bucket lists. It’s classified as moderate because it’s 3 miles one way and most of that is through sand. But, the payoff is BIG! It’s well known and you can swim in the waterhole below the 130’ waterfall.
The Grotto
Located in Payson Canyon, this quarter of a mile each way hike is easy enough for all ages to do. The best part is the several stream crossings to reach the falls. The trail used to be shaded, but since last year’s forest fire, that may be different. It’s always a good time hiking to this waterfall.
