Are you worried about getting on the roads this winter? Don’t let the snow keep you from your holiday parties, Brian from Doug Smith Autoplex gave us the tips and tricks we need to make it through the holidays.

  1. Slow down.

Brian says most people think they can keep up the speed while driving on the icy roads, but he says even with all wheel drive not slowing down on the dangerous roads will cost you more than just your time when you have to stop.

  1. If you start to slide turn your wheel in the direction you’re slipping.

Although most of us would think to turn the wheel the other way, Brian says doing this will help your car to auto correct itself and gain traction.

  1. Don’t pump your brakes, hold them down.

Brian says if you have the anti lock brake system it will do the work for you.

  1. Always check your washer fluid.

Visibility will be impossible without this invaluable fluid that keeps our windows snow free. Brian says it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

  1. Keep at least half of a tank of gas in your car.

Getting stranded on the freeway can happen to anyone, Brian says to make sure this does not happen to you by always filling up before you head out.

  1. Stock up on snacks and water bottles.

Just in case the winter storm gets the better of you, make sure you always have some essentials until you can get to safety.
