Bringing the outdoors into the home has been a common interior design trend for quite a long time. However, this season, brining the indoors outside is the main focus for outdoor living spaces. Matt Blashaw from DIY Network’s Yard Crashers is here to discuss the best ways you can incorporate popular indoor design trends into your backyard. The key to achieve this look and feel is to create an outdoor space with all of the comforts and amenities found inside.

Indoors Out: Top Backyard Trends

– Outdoor furniture that appears to belong inside the home
o There are several outdoor furniture companies that are now offering waterproof, weatherproof patio furniture that looks like the chairs, sofas, and tables that belong inside the living room and dining room
o This furniture is often made of plastics and tough waterproof fabrics

– Create an outdoor living room
o Take your favorite elements of the living room inside your home and incorporate them into your backyard
o Place outdoor rugs underneath patio tables and chairs, or create a lounge area with a weatherproof sofa, comfy pillows, and coffee table

– Light up the outdoors
o String lights around the patio or trees
o Set out candles or LED lanterns
o Even buy or create your own outdoor chandelier

– Create an outdoor bar or kitchen
o If this can fall into your budget, an outdoor bar or kitchen is an excellent addition to any outdoor living space
o For a more budget-friendly option, consider creating your own bar area on a waterproof bar cart
