The Gadget Basket
  • Doesn’t have to be a basket, but any container that can hold the family’s handheld devices
  • Silence phones before placing in basket
  • Keep basket out of reach of table
  • Among the Durable skills taught: listening, good eating habits, staying in touch with your loved ones
The Talking Stick
  • Talking stick is most closely associated with the native people of the Pacific Northwest
  • Only the person with the stick can talk. Everyone else in the group has to listen
  • The Talking Stick doesn’t have to be a stick. Can be any object family designates (such as a ketchup bottle)
  • You can decorate your stick as a family. 
  • Among the Durable skills taught: listening, patience, expressing yourself civilly
Plug-in Alarm Clock
  • Allows the child to sleep soundly through the night
  • Prevents late-night texting
  • Obviates the need to have cell phone in room as an alarm clock
  • Among durable skills taught: good sleeping habits, being able to peacefully separate from your device, better recall, keeping your metabolism and body healthy
