LDS Church responds to health concerns for Pres. Thomas S. Monson

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Utah) – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is now responding to concerns over what some may consider the failing health of President Thomas S. Monson. On Tuesday, ABC 4 Utah spoke LDS members about his condition.

You may have noticed recently something might be different about President Thomas S. Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the April sessions of LDS General Conference some think he didn’t look as healthy as he usually does, and people are now talking about it.

“It’s just natural for a prophet to get older,” said Kurtis Taylor, LDS Church member.

“Nobody’s exempt from that are they,” said Kathy Pieracca, LDS Church member.

The LDS church is now responding to concerns for his health. On Tuesday it sent ABC 4 Utah this statement:

“President Monson is 87. It’s natural that he and others in Church leadership are feeling the effects of advancing age. However, he spoke publicly at General Conference earlier this month and attended all the meetings. He comes to the office every day, attends all First Presidency and committee meetings, leads the discussion, and makes decisions. The workload of the First Presidency is up to date. President Monson has always been private about his health, but appreciates the prayers and sustaining support of Church members, as do all of the First Presidency and the Twelve.”

If Pres. Monson’s health is failing, LDS members have faith the Church is still in good hands.

“This is God’s church. He’ll decide who’ll be the next prophet and when,” said Pieracca.

“If an apostle passes on, the Lord will call up another to fill their spot,” said Taylor.
