There is a lot of construction going on right now at Salt Lake International Airport. Nancy Volmer with SL International joined GMU to talk about what the changes will mean for the community. Construction of a new airport terminal is underway, so that is why you are seeing cranes and dirt being moved when you exit the airport. The terminal will be adjacent to the existing one. It will include a new parking garage, terminal, and two new concourses.
When complete it is estimated that the new airport will cost $3.1 billion. No local tax payer dollars are going to fund the project. The first phase will be completed the fall of 2020.
The Salt Lake Economic Department says the airport is a big pitch and selling point as their economic development team meets with prospective companies and site electors.
