The Salt Lake City Arts Council is part of the Department of Economic Development, and a guest who appeared on GMU is a perfect example of how the arts ties in to that field. Artist Laura Sharp Wilson with the Arts Council created the floor design at the Eccles Theater. The focus of the Arts Council is to make arts accessible to everyone. Laura has done just that with her work at the Eccles Theater which is now seen and enjoyed by so many – and it’s free!
“The terrazzo floor is one of two commissioned art projects for the theater, and it’s my first commissioned public art piece. The floor piece I created is called “Thread, Trail, Rope and Yarn. The design reflects the Salt Lake Valley and the groups of people who have inhabited it,” she explained.
People can see more of Laura’s art and others at the Finch Lane Gallery. The exhibitions run August 11 through September 22.
