It’s National Volunteer Week from April 7th to the 13th and Utah Red Cross is taking the opportunity to honor the volunteers that support them. To tell us more about it Rich Woodruff and Sylviane Bahati joined Emily Clark on Good Morning Utah.

Included below is some of the information they discussed:

Here in Utah more than 1,100 Utahans volunteer with the Red Cross to help people by helping staff blood drives, volunteering at veterans’ hospitals, teaching people lifesaving skills such as first aid and CPR, responding to home fires in the middle of the night and so much more. These individuals are also among the more than 372,000 volunteers who comprise more than 90 percent of the national American Red Cross workforce.

“During National Volunteer Week, we thank our volunteers for their service and support,” said Kristy Denlein Regional Volunteer Officer for the Red Cross in Utah and Nevada. “Our volunteers are true heroes who give their time to help their neighbors and local community” she added.

Last year, Utah Red Cross volunteers provided food, shelter, comfort and hope to hundreds of people affected by home fires and other disasters in Utah and by deploying to major disasters around the country. They also helped train Utahans in lifesaving skills and provided services to military members, veterans and their families.
