Katie Karalis was thrilled to join ABC4 News as the Southern Utah Bureau Chief based in St. George in April 2019 — and has been beyond happy to explore all that Utah has to offer.
Katie is from Chicago. She graduated from The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University — majoring in journalism with concentrations in psychology and Spanish and anchoring and reporting for the Emmy Award winning Northwestern News Network.
Katie found her footing reporting for KRNV News 4 in Reno, Nevada and WGEM-TV in Quincy, Illinois before making the move to Utah. She is passionate about journalism that remains so important in a world more connected than ever before and sees the profession as an art of storytelling that represents voices of local communities in a compassionate and ethical way. She enjoys reporting on crime, fires and search and rescues, politics, and education.
Katie loves to spend time hiking, swimming, kayaking, running, and exploring the outdoors. She enjoys finding hidden gems in popular places throughout Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Snow Canyon State Park, Sand Hollow Reservoir, Quail Lake, and Pine Valley Recreation Area. She also loves relaxing at home with her two Golden Retrievers, sitting with a good book, and practicing yoga and meditation.
Katie loves hearing from members of the community. If you have any story ideas or would like to submit any photos for news broadcast, feel free to reach out to Katie on Facebook or send her an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
