Jonathon Sharp is a digital journalist with more than a decade of experience in newsrooms across North America.
Originally from Minnesota, he spent several years covering breaking news at the CBS owned and operated station in downtown Minneapolis (WCCO-TV).
During his time there, he covered some of the biggest news stories of the last decade. Among these were Al Franken’s resignation from the U.S. Senate following #MeToo allegations and the murder of George Floyd and subsequent racial reckoning.
During the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jonathon moved to southern Utah, where he fell in love with the red rock desert. He’s one of those Midwesterners who’s continually drawn to the landscapes of the American West.
But his time in the desert was short-lived, as he then set off for northern California, where his partner studied for her master’s. While on the West Coast, Jonathon worked for the CBS station in Sacramento, KOVR, and enjoyed many weekend trips to Lake Tahoe.
Next, he and his partner moved to the Canadian Rockies, near Banff National Park in southern Alberta. There, Jonathon worked at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, reporting for online and radio out of the Calgary office.
Jonathon returned to the U.S. in the fall of 2023 and decided to settle in Salt Lake City. Outside of the newsroom, Jonathon enjoys rock climbing, cooking, and hiking with his partner and two dogs.
