Emily Florez is an Emmy-nominated, award-winning journalist and anchor of the ABC4 Utah News at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm.
Emily joined KTVX from WMAQ NBC 5 Chicago where she was a reporter and anchor from 2012 to 2018. While in Chicago Emily covered the history-in-the-making World Series title run of the Chicago Cubs. She was part of the NBC team who extensively covered the fatal police shooting of Laquan McDonald, and was a main correspondent covering the subsequent public protests and ongoing investigation of the Chicago Police Department. Additionally, she was a key correspondent covering Illinois’ severe weather events including multiple deadly tornadoes, regional flooding, and Chicago’s 2014 polar vortex.
Prior to her time in Chicago, Emily worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor for KUTV 2 News in Salt Lake City, where she covered the trial of Elizabeth Smart’s captor Brian David Mitchell, the search for Susan Powell, and the exoneration of Debra Brown. Emily began her career with KIDK in Idaho Falls, ID.
Emily is a graduate of Brigham Young University where she majored in Communications/Broadcast Journalism, minored in Sociology, and helped launch the School of Communications Student Ambassador program.
She is a Utah native, wife, mother of two, and a natural health & healing enthusiast.
