Derick Fox is a Utah native born and raised. After graduating from high school, he spent way too long at the University of Utah, where he went from studying the Japanese language to linguistics to journalism before finally graduating with a degree in strategic communications in 2019.
Fox’s professional career has seen him split four years in professional sports with Utah’s Real Salt Lake and West Texas’ El Paso Locomotive FC. He led the communications efforts for RSL’s then-United Soccer League affiliate, Real Monarchs, when the team brought home the championship in 2019, and he has the ring and medal to prove it.
Fox returned to Salt Lake City after two years in El Paso and joined ABC4 in August 2022. He likes to stay “in the know” with the latest across the Salt Lake valley whether it’s crime, science, technology, or art and culture. Fox especially pays close attention to downtown development and is in search of the best local coffee shops and cafes Utah has to offer.
In his free time, Fox enjoys taking photos of scenic Salt Lake City, watching movies, and playing FIFA, Overwatch, or Splatoon. As an avid soccer fan, Fox can be found at America First Field in Sandy every game day or cheering on the United States Men’s and Women’s National Teams. He is also known to bother his cat, Krit, who refuses to let him sleep past 6 a.m.
Derick can be reached most easily by email at defox@abc4.com.
