2 tournaments down, one to go.

The USGA Public Links Championship wrapped up Saturday at Soldier Hollow GC in Midway. Congrats to head pro Chris Newson and his crew for staging an outstanding event, the first USGA tournament ever in the state of Utah.

The Utah Championship on the Web.com tour ended a day later, on Sunday. Willow Creek Country Club always does a great job hosting the event, which has produced some great champions. One of those was Zach Johnson, who won here in 2003. On the same day that the Utah Championship ended, Johnson hit an incredible 194-yard 6 iron out of a fairway bunker on the 2nd hole of sudden death to win the John Deere Classic on the PGA Tour. It made for a nice little segue on our sportscast.

And now the Utah State Amateur takes center stage. It returns to the Salt Lake Country Club, the original host of the State Am back in 1899. But this will be the first time it has hosted it in 37 years, so it should be a lot of fun. The course will test the state's best amateurs, and I anxious to see what kind of scores they shoot up there.

I'm still hacking it around. I played at Thanksgiving Point last Friday, and actually had a couple of birdies. Even better was the fact I was playing with my high school buddy, Mark Fullmer. That's the best part of golf, playing cool places with people you like. It doesn't get any better than that.

Enjoy!
