SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - So who is the real number three?

"Who's the real number three?" repeated Brian Johnson. "I don't know. I guess it remains to be seen."

"I was number three in high school," said Jordan Wynn. "(Johnson) always jokes around saying he's the real number three, so we have a good laugh about it."

Utes starting sophomore quarterback Jordan Wynn is wearing Brian Johnson's old number. Johnson left Utah after their historic win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl as the school's all-time winningest quarterback. He has just begun his first season as the Utes quarterbacks coach, and although Johnson and Wynn do have some similarities in the way they approach the game, Wynn reminds Johnson of another great Ute quarterback, Alex Smith.

"It's very eerie how similar he sounds like Alex," said Johnson. "It's unbelievable. They have the exact same voice. I guess it must be a San Diego thing. A San Diego accent coming out -- the Beach Boys."

Well so far, there's been nothing but good vibrations.

"He brings that aspect of just recently playing," said Wynn. "He knows the schemes and defenses the teams run that we face. He's just helping me grow."

"It's an interesting dynamic," said Johnson. "In my career I've been through the peaks and valleys of not playing well, playing well, winning a lot of games, so I understand how it all works. I think it's a positive thing that I can relate to those guys on a personal level."

But is it difficult for Wynn to look at Johnson as a coach?

"There's definitely a fine line," Wynn said. "He's still a coach. I knew him last year before he was a coach, so I feel the transition was pretty easy."

"He's getting better each and every day and that's something that I'm extremely proud of," said Johnson.

However, Wynn still has some work to do to be the number one number three.
