Ten straight wins for Weber State

OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - The Weber State men’s basketball team won its 10th straight game with a dominating 80-52 win over Portland State Thursday night at the Dee Events Center. The win lifts the Wildcats to 23-5 overall and 17-2 in Big Sky play with just one conference game remaining.
Weber State remains a game behind Montana for the Big Sky title with one game remaining. The ‘Cats need to win Saturday’s final home game against Eastern Washington and need Montana and Montana State to both lose at home Saturday in order to win a tiebreaker with Montana and host the Big Sky Tournament next week.
It was all Weber State from the start as the Wildcats jumped out to a 12-0 lead after two three-pointers each from Scott Bamforth and Jordan Richardson. WSU held a 21-4 lead with 11:43 to play in the first half and led by as many as 28 in the half and led 41-13 at the break. The 13 points is the fewest in a half by a Wildcat opponent this season. The Wildcats shot 56 percent in the first half and held the Vikings to just 18 percent shooting.
The Vikings shot 59 percent from the field in the second half but never got closer than 17 points the rest of the way. It was Weber State’s sixth straight win over Portland State and ninth straight at home.
For the game the Wildcats shot 55 percent from the field and held the Vikings to 36 percent. WSU was 8-16 from three-point range and continues to lead the nation in three-point field goal percentage. WSU also outrebounded Portland State 44-23 and improved to 22-0 this season when outrebounding its opponents.
For the third straight game and the 13th time this season Davion Berry led Weber State in scoring, finishing with 19 points. He was 6-8 from the field and 6-7 from the free throw line on the night.
Scott Bamforth recorded his first career double-double, finishing with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. He broke his career-high with nine rebounds in the first half. Bamforth was 5-10 from the field and knocked down three three-pointers to go along with three steals and two assists.
Freshman Joel Bolomboy also added a double-double, his fourth of the season, posting 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Kyle Tresnak had nine points and Frank Otis added seven points and five assists.
The win is Weber State’s 10th straight home win and 18th straight Big Sky home win.
The Wildcats will close out the regular season Saturday night against Eastern Washington at 7:00 p.m.
