SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a Southern Utah University football player was arrested over the weekend of suspicion of theft and assault.

The Iron County jail says Tyree Lamont Mills was booked late Saturday after his arrest by university police.

Jail records show Mills was released on a $1,500 bond.

Mills is a cornerback who played in a losing game earlier Saturday against Montana State.

No SUU police officers were on duty Sunday. A call from The Associated Press was forwarded to regional dispatchers in Cedar City who said they had no information about the case.

It wasn't clear if the alleged theft and assault case occurred Saturday or if charges developed from an earlier investigation.

Cedar City is about 220 miles south of Salt Lake City.
