CARSON, Calif. (ABC 4 Sports) - Fabian Espindola scored two goals to help Real Salt Lake beat Chivas USA 3-0 on Saturday night.
The defeat snapped the Rojiblancos' six-game winning streak in all competitions and kept RSL on top of the West at 32 points (10-3-2). Chivas, meanwhile, fell to 4-7-3 on the season.
Espindola put RSL up in the 41st minute after a giveaway in midfield led to a Kyle Beckerman pass from 35 yards that found the Argentine, who eluded Chivas (4-7-3) defender Danny Califf to head in the opening goal.
Espindola added another goal in the 54th minutes when Ned Grabavoy found him mid-run. Espindola then deked past defender Rauwshan McKenzie before scoring his second of the night. With his two goal performance, Espindola placed himself in a tie with forward Alvaro Saborio for the club scoring lead.
RSL added a third late when Will Johnson – in his first match back from international duty with Canada – notched his first goal of the season. A clever move from Beckerman and Morales allowed him plenty of space in the area to finish easily.
Both teams will return to action this Wednesday as RSL returns to Rio Tinto Stadium to host the LA Galaxy while the Goats host the Montreal Impact.
