SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - On Monday, Jazz guard Wesley Matthews was offered a qualifying offer by the Utah Jazz. He hopes to see Carlos Boozer return but today at Matthews basketball camp he told ABC 4 Sports that he's not too sure what will happen with Boozer or himself.
"I'm not sure," Matthews said. "I just hope everything goes right by both parties, although, that probably won't happen. But I love winning and if that means Carlos comes back then I'm definitely ok with it. Boozer is a great teammate. He's been great to me but at the same time this is a business and I understand that he has to do what's best for his family."
While Boozer is free to sign anywhere, Matthews is a *restricted* free agent, meaning the Jazz can match any offer he gets from another team.
"Utah's been great," Matthews added. "Not too many people could predict that an undrafted rookie could find himself as a starter as a 2-guard in the West. I feel like the Jazz organization has a lot of confidence in me."
Pretty soon, we'll see if that's the case because one thing is for sure, Matthews wants a new contract, if not from the Jazz then definitely from another team.
"I just want to get to the best spot for me," Matthews said. "Financially I want to be able to take care of my family. I want more. It's greedy but I worked for it, too."
So will Utah do what's best for its family?
We'll find out soon enough.
