SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Not all of the local high school football stars decided to stay home on National Signing Day.

Pleasant Grove offensive lineman Brandon Fanaika, considered to be the top high school prospect in the state, decided to play for Stanford despite a strong late push by Utah. Fanaika originally committed to Stanford in December, but was said to be reconsidering the Utes. Fanaika will return to Salt Lake City eventually as a member of the Cardinal.

Highland High running back Sione Houma signed to play for Michigan. Houma, a big bruising fullbak, rushed for 1,838 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career with the Rams.

Highland quarterback Anthony Smithson is leaving for Navy. Smithson led the Rams to the 2010 4A state championship, but played in only six games this past season because of injuries.

Bingham linebacker Jared Afavala signed to play at Nebraska. Afavala led the Miners in tackles this past season.
