SALT LAKE CITY (ABC-4 Sports) - Ronnie Brewer will not sign a contract extension with the Utah Jazz before Monday's NBA deadline. Brewer's agent, Henry Thomas, was not able to come to an agreement, so Brewer will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2009-2010 season. That means assuming the Jazz make a qualifying offer of $3.8 million this summer, the Jazz will be able to match any offer Brewer receives from another team.
Brewer, in his 4th year with the Jazz, was the 14th overall pick out of Arkansas in the 2006 NBA Draft. Last season, Brewer averaged 13.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, all career highs.
The Jazz did exercise a $1.3 million option on Kosta Koufos for the 2010-11 season. Koufos, their 2008 first-round draft pick out of Ohio State, played in 48 games as a rookie last season.
