Bees player named to All-PCL team

SALT LAKE CITY (August 31, 2009) - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Bees outfielder Terry Evans has been named to the 2009 All-PCL team, as selected by the league's managers and media representatives.

Evans, 27, has appeared in 128 games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .286 with six triples, 25 home runs and 86 RBI. He also leads the Bees with 32 doubles and 26 stolen bases. He is currently tied for the fourth-most home runs in the PCL this season. Evans was named to the PCL All-Star team in 2009 for the second time in his career following his selection in 2007. He also participated in the 2009 Triple-A Home Run Derby.

The Dublin, Ga. native made his major league debut with the Angels on June 17, 2007, hitting a home run in his first at-bat. He has appeared in a total of eight games for the Halos. Evans joined the Angels organization from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Jeff Weaver on July 5, 2006.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Rafael Rodriguez to Triple-A Salt Lake. To make room for Rodriguez on the Bees roster, Salt Lake reassigned right-handed pitcher Dan Denham to Double-A Arkansas.

Rodriguez, 24, has appeared in 15 games for the Angels in 2009, owning a 0-1 record with a 6.26 ERA and nine strikeouts. In 19 games for the Bees this season, he owns a 1.80 ERA with three saves and 19 strikeouts. The Dominican Republic native signed with the Angels as a free agent on July 20, 2001.

Denham, 26, has appeared in 27 games (21 starts) for the Bees in 2009, owning a 9-9 record with a 5.21 ERA and 56 strikeouts. In 25 games (all starts) for Arkansas in 2008, he owned a 9-10 record with a 4.44 ERA and 99 strikeouts. The Antioch, Calif. native joined the Angels via trade from Oakland on July 12, 2007.

The Salt Lake Bees continue the team’s final road trip of the season tonight against the Tacoma Rainiers at 8 p.m. The Bees return home for the final four regular season games of 2009 on Friday, September 4 at 7:05 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark against the Sacramento River Cats.
