SAN DIEGO (ABC 4 Sports) - No matter how many BYU fans make the trip to San Diego for the Poinsettia Bowl, the Cougars will not have the home field advantage.
That is because San Diego State has accepted a bid to play BYU December 20th at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.
The Aztecs (9-3) and Cougars (7-5) played 13 consecutive seasons from 1998-2010 until BYU left the Mountain West Conference to become an independent.
The Aztecs started this season 2-3 before closing with seven consecutive victories. SDSU tied Fresno State for the Mountain West title with 7-1 league records. Boise State can make it a three-way tie atop the MWC if the Broncos beat Nevada on Saturday.
BYU has not played in a bowl game in San Diego since 1993, when it faced Ohio State in the Holiday Bowl.
The Poinsettia Bowl will kick off at 6:00 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.
