Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed catcher Wil Nieves to a one-year deal. The pact is believed to be worth $800,000

Nieves, who had been non-tendered by Arizona last week, will serve as the backup to Miguel Montero. He appeared in 16 games for the Diamondbacks last season after being released by Colorado and batted .306

A nine-year veteran, Nieves has also played with the Washington Nationals, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers.
