Nationals acquire OF Span from Twins

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals acquired outfielder Denard Span from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for pitcher Alex Meyer Thursday.

Span hit .283 with 38 doubles, four home runs, 41 runs batted in and 71 runs scored over 128 games for the Twins last season.

The 20th overall pick by Minnesota in 2002, Span is a career .284 hitter with 105 doubles, 23 homers, 230 RBI and 360 runs scored through 589 games over five season for the Twins.

Meyer, who has yet to appear in the majors, went 10-6 with a 2.86 earned run average in 25 starts between Single-A Hagerstown and High-A Potomac last season.
