LARAMIE, Wyo. (ABC-4 Sports) - Max Hall threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns in just over two quarters, and No. 25 BYU won its sixth straight over Wyoming, 52-0 on Saturday.

BYU (7-2, 4-1 Mountain West) recorded its first shutout of the season and second consecutive against the Cowboys. The Cougars beat Wyoming 44-0 last year.

Hall now has 28 career wins, one behind the school record held by Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer, who played at BYU from 1988-91.

Against Wyoming (4-5, 2-3), he was 20 of 22 and had TD passes of 44, 2, 79 and 15 yards. He completed passes to seven different receivers before taking a seat midway through the third quarter.

It was the most lopsided loss for Wyoming since 1985.

Cougars receiver McKay Jacobson, who missed the previous four games with a hamstring injury, caught three passes for 100 yards, including the 79-yard TD score.

Harvey Unga rushed for 85 yards before limping off the field early in the third quarter.

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said Unga's injury was not serious and he could have returned to the game.

But that wasn't necessary with the game so one-sided.

The Cougars outgained the Cowboys 543-225. The closest Wyoming came to scoring was just before halftime when it drove down to the BYU 7 but time ran out in the half.

Freshman quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels was 14 of 23 for 108 yards for the Cowboys.

It was the third time the Cowboys have been shut out this season under new coach Dave Christensen, a former offensive coordinator at Missouri who was hired in December to revitalize the Cowboy's offense.

PROVO, Utah (ABC-4 Sports) - University of New Mexico head women’s soccer coach Kit Vela announced today that junior defender Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended indefinitely for her actions in Thursday’s match against BYU in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Championship in Provo, Utah.

Effective immediately, Lambert is prohibited from participating in all team practices, competition and conditioning activities. As a junior, it is unclear whether or not Lambert will be able to resume activities with the team next season.

On Wednesday, Lambert was seen punching BYU's Carlee Payne in the back, and she pulled BYU's Kassidy Shumway to the ground by her ponytail. Lambert also kicked a ball into the face of another Cougar player. Lamber was eventually given a red card ejection.

“I am deeply and wholeheartedly regretful for my actions,” said Lambert. “My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary from the coaching staff and UNM administration. This is in no way indicative of my character or the soccer player that I am. I am sorry to my coaches and teammates for any and all damages I have brought upon them. I am especially sorry to BYU and the BYU women’s soccer players that were personally affected by my actions. I have the upmost respect for the BYU women’s soccer program and its players.”

“Liz is a quality student-athlete, but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship,” said Vela.

“Liz’s conduct on the field against BYU was completely inappropriate,” said UNM Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs. “There is no way to defend her actions.”

BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe also released a statement, saying he was satisfied with the way Krebs promptly handled the situation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Javier Morales and Robbie Findley scored first-half goals and Real Salt Lake advanced to its second straight conference final with a 3-2 victory over the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew on Thursday night.

The victory, combined with a 1-0 home win Saturday, gave Salt Lake a 4-2 aggregate win in the two-game series. After setting an MLS record with a 24-game home unbeaten streak, Columbus finished the season with three straight losses at home.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto, the reigning MLS MVP, gave the Crew a 1-0 lead with an improbable tally off a 56-yard free kick in the 19th minute. The ball bounced just outside the box and passed inches beyond the reach of diving goalkeeper Nick Rimando.

Schelotto scored again in the 35th minute. He intercepted a pass from Salt Lake defender Robbie Russell and redirected the ball to teammate Emmanuel Ekpo.

Ekpo returned the pass and Schelotto wrong-footed defender Jamison Olave before curling a low, hard shot from the edge of the penalty area inside the right post.

That gave the Crew a 2-1 cumulative lead, but it was short-lived. In the 37th minute, Morales scored an opportunistic goal following questionable defending in front of Columbus goalkeeper William Hesmer.

Moments before the end of the first half, Crew captain Frankie Hejduk was whistled for hauling down Salt Lake's Fabian Espindolainside the penalty area. Findley drove a penalty kick into the leftside of the net as Hesmer dove to the right.

Andy Williams scored in the 74th minute to Salt Lake additional breathing room.

In the 85th minute, the Crew's Robbie Rogers sent a pass into the penalty area that second-half substitute Jason Garey headed toward the goal. Rimando made a leaping, fingertip save for one of his eight on the night.

In 2008, Salt Lake played in the Western Conference final, but will compete this year in the Eastern finals due to MLS playoff seedings.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC-4 Sports) - The Utah Jazz are off to their worst start in seven years (1-3), and if the losing continues, the team is wary of possible chemistry issues.

"We have to stick together," said Carlos Boozer who is shooting 35 percent so far this season. "We can't fall apart. You know when you start losing a little bit, some guys go different ways on different teams. The good thing on this team, is that we stick together so we'll have a chance to fight back and win."

Head coach Jerry Sloan just wants his team to be tight on the court. "There's a lot of people who don't like each other when they get off the floor," Sloan said. "But when they get out there, they have to be together in order to try to win."

In their three losses, the Jazz have been outscored by 57 points in the 4th quarter. They were torched for 29 points by Dirk Nowitzki in blowing a 16-point 4th quarter lead in Dallas on Tuesday. The Jazz have struggled defensively, and they are getting a little sick of being asked about it.

"It's just up to us to get out there and do it," said forward Paul Millsap. "I'm tired of talking about it. We just got to get out there and do it, really."

Boozer says the team isn't concerned about any potential distraction. "We just got to keep playing ball. Not worry about anything else, not worry about the rest of the stuff that y'all write about and talk about. Just stick together as a group of guys."

Asked if it's time to panic, Mehmet Okur said, "No, it's too early to panic."

But the way things are going, it may be time soon.

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC-4 Sports) - Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham is going to keep it a secret who his starting quarterback is until just before kickoff this Saturday against New Mexico. But it certainly appears true freshman Jordan Wynn is going to get the call. Wynn took almost all the snaps with the first team at practice, and is expected to become the new starting quarterback, replacing Terrance Cain.

"Obviously, we're not releasing it yet," said Wynn. "It's a little different, but me and Terrance are preparing exactly the same."

"We're a team," said Cain. "We can't be selfish. Whatever is best for the team, that's what we gotta do."

Whittingham is hoping the quarterback controversy doesn't affect either player's attitude. "Nobody likes to lose their job," said Whittingham. "But we expect out of Terrance what we got out of Jordan when Jordan was on the sidelines. He was supporting Terrance and being a positive factor on our football team."

Wynn replaced Cain last Saturday against Wyoming, and led a 2nd half comeback. Trailing 10-3, Wynn completed 9 of 14 passes for 82 yard's and his first career touchdown pass as the Utes rallied past the Cowboys, 22-10. Cain was 7-1 as a starter, but struggled to move the offense during the Utes last two victories against Air Force and Wyoming.

The fact that Wynn and Cain are such good friends doesn't make the situation any easier. "It would be better if we hated each other," said Wynn. "But with both of us friends, it makes for an interesting relationship."

The Utes host the Lobos this Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium at 4:00 p.m.
