LEHI, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Kristy Ragsdale was shot around 11:00 a.m. Sunday as she stepped out of a car at a Lehi LDS Church parking lot.

About an hour later, her husband turned himself into police. They say he confessed to the killing.

Now, the LDS Church has an official reaction to the tragedy, saying, “It was a senseless act of violence... that took the life of Kristy Koreen Ragsdale."

The statement goes on to say, "It shattered the peace and endangered hundreds of worshipers on a quiet Sabbath morning."

She was hit repeatedly with bullets to the back, torso, and even the head, according to the arrest document.

Her husband, David Ragsdale, is charged with capital aggravated murder.

It’s a charge that could be punishable by death.

A judge will not allow bail, saying Ragsdale poses a danger to his children and his mother-in-law.

According to police, Kristy’s mother was in the car--just six feet away--when her daughter was gunned down.

Another man was 20 or 30 feet away with his two young sons as the bullets flew.

Other people were in cars and nearby homes, and police say the nine-millimeter bullets could have hit many others.

The LDS Church extended its sympathy to those who've been affected by this tragedy. As Kristy's friends remember her warm smile and vibrant spirit, they tie pink ribbons around the trees in front of her home, down the block and on her door.

In small groups or individually, they brought a flower or simply drove by and paused, remembering the joy she gave them.

One friend said Kristy was a great mother. Teenaged girls in the neighborhood said she was their friend, too. They would stop there for a movie or girl talk. 14-year-old Ashley said, “She always had open arms, boosted everybody up, made everyone feel happy."

Another teen said, "She knew what to do to help us.”

Even as she spoke of her pending divorce, they say she kept a smile on her face.

Many friends spoke of her spunk, her strong will and determination.

Now they want only the best for her mother and her two little boys, ages 1-and-a-half and four, who must grow up without her. Jody Smith, a friend, said, "She'll be very missed. We loved her very much."
