DRAPER, Utah (ABC4 News) The H1N1 swine flu vaccine is now available in Smith's and Harmons grocery store pharmacies and at Utah Walgreens. Walgreens will begin taking walk-in patients on Thursday. On Wednesday, the phones were ringing at the Harmons in Draper. People were calling and making appointments for the vaccinations set for Friday between 1 and 7 p.m. Smith's is also taking reservations.
Greg Jones of Harmons told ABC4's Ross Becker that each of the 9 Harmon's stores in Utah got 200 doses of the vaccine and the store is charging an administrative fee of $10 for the shots. "I think we will have no problem going through the 200 doses this week", he said. The shots are still only for those in the high-risk groups defined by the Centers for Disease Control. However, Utah state law prohibits private pharamcies from giving vaccines to children under 13 so those younger children will still have to get the vaccine at the public clinics.
For a list of where to get the vaccince at Smith's or Harmons or Walgreens go to the Salt Lake Valley Health Department website for addresses and phone numbers.
