SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Utah supporters of Barack Obama watched his acceptance speech from a big screen monitor at Salt Lake City’s Canyon Rim Park Thursday night. Organizers say the event had been advertised for some time in coffee shops and grocery stores.

Hundreds of people lined the park and watched the Illinois Senator’s acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. As Obama whipped the crowd into frenzy at Invesco field, many in Salt Lake City commented on his speech.

Event organizer Rob Skraznas says, “ Barack Obama appeals to many different people, there are even Republicans for Obama here tonight."

Many people told ABC 4 News that they couldn’t believe how successful Obama has been since he left Utah last year. On August 5, 2007, Obama spoke to an enthusiastic crowd at Park City’s Olympic Park. He admitted that he was a bit overwhelmed by the number of supporters who came out to hear him speak that day.

As 75-thousand people cheered on Obama in Denver, hundreds did the same in this east bench neighborhood.

Obama accepted the Democratic presidential nomination on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" Speech.

Obama supporters inside Invesco Field in Denver also gave good marks to their candidate.
