HERRIMAN, UTAH- In the heart of Herriman there's a house for sale drawing more than a little attention. It's identical to the animated home of Carl and Ellie Fredrickson in the Disney movie "Up".
In Disney's movie "Up" Carl and Ellie move into their dream home as a young couple. Ellie’s death leaves Carl a grumpy recluse, who refuses to give up his house to progress, and launches it into the sky with balloons.
There are some who now believe it landed not in Paradise Falls, as the movie goes, but in the Herriman neighborhood. Bangerter homes replicated the house because builders say it represents the role homes play in lives. Adam Bangerter says it was a vision hatched by his brother while watching “Up” with his children. “It really shows you don't have to have a palatial mansion. A home is a place where you create memories."
The design was created with Disney's permission and based solely on watching the movie, and paying attention to the minutest detail. “There weren't blue prints out there for the “Up” house it's an animated movie. So we scaled it out using our experience as custom homebuilders."
No detail was overlooked, from the stenciled mailbox, in front of the home, to the picture over the mantle, to the shingles on the roof, and the furniture inside. “Really if you see it in the movie you will see it brought to real life"
Even though it feels like Disneyland, this home is actually functional, because ultimately, the 2,800 square foot, four bedroom home is for sale and unlikely to be lofted by balloons. "This home actually does have a full basement, unlike the movie, and it's attached so this home isn’t going anywhere."
The builders hope the family that moves in will be full of the same optimism, and love as Carl and Ellie, and have the same appreciation for their new home. The price of living Disney in Herriman is about $400,000 dollars.
The “Up” house can only be viewed from the outside until July 29th, when it will be featured in the Salt Lake Parade of Homes. It can then be viewed complete with balloons through August 14th.
