SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The people who held a fake news conference announcing a resolution to export all homosexuals from Utah have stepped forward to admit their hoax.
A blogger named Troy Williams posted a blog entry on Tuesday claiming to be the mastermind of the bogus resolution that called for the expulsion of all homosexuals from Utah if they would not agree to "rehabilitation."
Three actors posing as members of a conservative LDS group called Patriots for a Moral Utah held the phony press conference on Monday, announcing that they would petition the Utah legislature to expel all gays from the state. The resolution contained some the same language and reasoning used by Nazis to exterminate jews during World War II.
Williams claims he concocted the hoax to "...[expose] the never-ending parade of inane message bills from the Utah Legislature."
Williams added, "The fact that so many believed this could happen speaks volumes to the climate of ignorance and fear in the state."
Williams also revealed that the woman who read the statement at the fake press conference posing as “Nora Young” was in reality a local actress and LGBT supporter named Tamara Howell.
Williams' blog entry also stated that "Nora Young's" words were "...crafted together by the outrageous statements of Chris Buttars, Gayle Ruzika, Sutherland Institute and of course the Mormon Church.
According to his blog called "Queer Gnosis," Williams is a program director and producer for KRCL 90.9 FM Radio in Salt Lake City.
