WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4 News) - Three people are arrested after a botched robbery at a fast food place.
Employees at the Taco Time near 9000 South and 2700 West were about to close the doors Thursday evening.
“There was a knocking on the back door,” said Jaimee Spell, who was working the night shift. “I thought it was our boss or my boyfriend so I opened the door.”
She saw a man come from behind the door with a gun. Spell tried to close the door but he got a shot off. The bullet went through the wall and hit a co-worker.
"She started to get a little paniced,” Spell said about her injured co-worker. “She said ‘I'm going to die, I need to get out of here. Help me please.’"
She called 9-1-1.
Meanwhile police searched for the suspects in the surrounding neighborhood. A trail of suspicious clothing led them to a man’s house.
“There was a black sweater here (shed) and a ski mask and they found a gun out here,” said the man who did not want to be identified.
Police left with the clothing. But a short while later he saw a woman going into his shed. He got his gun and went outside and confronted her.
"I told her not to move and sit down right where she was," he said. “I asked why she was inside my shed and she got real quiet and she started shaking."
He called police and it lead to the arrest of Sherry Moreno and Emilio Guzman. A third person was also arrested but police did not release her name.
The co-worker was shot in the chest area and was in stable condition.
