OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) –Thousands of Utahns lined the streets of Ogden Wednesday in a show of strong emotion and strong support for a fallen officer and his wife.

Many stood in the cold for hours waiting along the procession route for a moment to pay tribute to Officer Jared Francom and to show their gratitude for his service.

Ogden resident Brad Barker says it’s the least he could do.” It’s just a simple way to say thanks for the police officers who make our lives livable and safe." And Tuesday total strangers mourned his loss.

Jenn Barker is still in elementary school but she understands the loss the to the community and to those close to officer Francom. "I felt sad for the family. I felt sad for all the people that loved him." Eleven year old MyKenzie held an American flag, like thousands of others, with the hope of reaching out to his family. "He has children of his own and a wife."

Young and old alike recognized the sacrifice made on their behalf. Kris Barker says she hopes Officer Francom’s wife Erin understands how deeply the loss of her husband has impacted everyone. "It takes a lot out of a family to have a father gone and we really pray for them that they are doing well.”

In the coming days the thousands who turned out today hope Erin Francom will remember she is not alone. Cindy Tangren, a breast cancer survivor, says it’s the small acts of kindness that helped her overcome her trials. She hopes that perhaps the memory of the thousands who offered their support Tuesday will bring comfort in the future. "Remember this community, that is obviously supporting, and showing support, and let that comfort and keep you on those nights that will be hard."
