SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The YouTube video of a Utah Highway Patrol trooper shooting a man with a taser is getting a huge response, but it's also bringing out the worst in some people.
Serious threats are now posted on YouTube by some people against the trooper who tasered Jared Massey of Roosevelt. According to the Associated Press, Massey is asking people to stop makingonline threats against the officer.
The Department of Public Safety is tracing a few of the five or six on-line messages.
One says, "I’m seriously going to kill this cop." Another says "You might see the wrong end of my colt python."
One posting says he's going "Tase someone with 50 thousand volts."
Free speech is one thing, but the Utah DPS says this is rising to a dangerous level. Utah DPS Spokesman Jeff Nigbur says, "99.9 percent are just blowing off steam, but how do you know that point one percent that's not...that's actually going to try to effectuate something that's going to try to kill somebody?"
The FBI is now working to track some of the messages down and YouTube pulled many of the threatening postings from its website.
The trooper who shot Massey with the taser is under an internal affairs investigation. He is still on duty.
