WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - One Utahn is taking action to help another and he wants ABC 4 to help. After hearing about a three year old girl fighting a brain tumor, James Canterbury started networking. He turned what was supposed to be just a yard sale in his driveway to a sale unlike any other in an Albertson’s parking lot.
Three year old Maryn Cella has a rare tumor in her brainstem. It was diagnosed last month. Her mom, Annette, has found a treatment center in Houston, Texas, but it will cost $60,000 to $100,000 and her insurance company won't cover it.
Enter James Canterbury who says, “I heard this about her and I just, I couldn't get it off my mind the whole day.” He decided to take action and have a yard sale to fundraise for the Cella family. He says, “I have a vision and it's to raise this money to save her life.”
He's networked on “Facebook” and now his yard sale has taken on a life of its own with people donating truck loads of things to sell.
None of the donated goods will have any price tags on them. The hope is for interested buyers to pay what they think the goods are worth and maybe even more.” Canterbury is calling it a “love offering.”
Whether or not they raise the minimum $60,000 at the Albertson’s yard sale or not, Canterbury says, “It's just to raise the awareness because I know that there are people out there who can really assist this family.”
The Cellas are overwhelmed and grateful for the strangers who may help to save Maryn's life. Annette Cella says, “I really feel like it's people like James who will be her miracle, that will be the hope for her.”
The yard sale will start Saturday, July 18th at 7:00 a.m. and last until 12:00 p.m.
