LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - We're learning more about Stephanie Sloop, the Layton Mom and Newlywed being held in jail as a suspect in her son, Ethan Stacy's, death.

Tina Rieyes, a friend of the suspect for the past decade, says she and Stephanie  were like sisters. Rieyes told ABC4 over the phone from her home in Florida that the news shocked her because Stephanie never seemed like the type of person who would harm her child.

"I can't believe this has happened this isn't the Stephanie I know," Rieyes told ABC 4. "It hurts my heart, she's like a sister to me but there's no reason for this, there's no excuse."

Rieyes says things started to go downhill for the newlywed after her divorce from Ethan's father. During the girls' trip to Vegas Rieyes says Stephanie did a "180."

"I don't know if she's on drugs or what could have happened, I don't know why she would have allowed this to happen," Rieyes said.

Stephanie and her husband Nathan are expected to back in court next week. They're expected to be charged in the death of 4-year-old Ethan Stacy. The district attorney says he'll seek the maximum punishment, which could mean the death penalty.

Ha! this is like calling the kettel black! Both of these "Girls" are so screwed up!They both suffer from mental illness. They Both live in a bubble where they are queen's of their reality! Both of them are users. Tina knows so much more than she leads everyone to believe. Birds of a feather flock together. Karma

Seems like an unsubstantiated story/comment, especially since the divorce papers said that her ex-husband (Ethan Stacy's father) had fears about her: http://www.abc4.com/news/local/story/Divorce-papers-reveal-fears-of-Ethan-Stacys-father/A2z0Jrxf8keg7GfDhVPgWQ.cspx "...the boy's mother was unstable and had abandoned the youngster." SICK, SICK, SICK... She deserves to be executed!! Why would any mother let anyone do this to their own child--and the step-"father" deserves the same punishment! There is no sense in "letting the prison take care of them" because that won't happen. They will be put in protective custody and enjoy all of the other amenities that all of the other prisoners have. Don't even get me started on the judge that ordered Ethan to stay with his mother after all of the warnings and plea's that he was given! What a sad ending to such a short life. I pray for Ethan's father.
