SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – More than a week after Susan Powell mysteriously vanished, friends, family and those touched by the story are still hoping to hear any new information about case.
In past years, hundreds of Utahns mobilized to search for missing children including Elizabeth Smart and Destiny Norton. Kiirsi Hellewell, a friend of Susan Powell says that there’s a multitude of people who are ready and willing to help with the search efforts of Susan Powell. However, the people who have offered their time and money are feeling helpless as they wait for police to give the green light to begin searching.
“I know there’s a whole lot of frustration in the worldwide community now that’s praying for Susan and hoping to find Susan: Why can’t we do something, why can’t we find Susan, why do we just have to sit home? But the truth is, they don’t know where too look yet,” says Hellewell.
While people wait for any new information, those who were touched by Susan’s story have been doing what they can to help the family and the investigation by posting on the internet and handing out thousands of fliers.
ABC 4 spoke with Ed Smart Monday night who said he planned to meet with Susan Powell’s father to talk about the challenges he’s facing and what to expect in the future.
One development Monday, not concerning Susan’s whereabouts, was news that Susan’s husband Josh hired defense attorney Scott Williams. Williams is the same attorney who recently defended Wanda Barzee.
Susan’s father, Chuck Cox, said that he’s giving Josh the benefit of the doubt; however, he and Hellewell were both surprised to learn that Josh hired an attorney.
Although Powell has been the only one asked to return for a third interview, police say that anyone has a right to an attorney and they are still considering Powell one of the many person’s of interest.
