SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A rally at Utah's State Capitol Saturday was designed to Take Back Utah.

People gathered were concerned about public land management.  Specifically federal rules and regulations that threaten access to those lands.

"I think people are waking up across the country to this very type of thing," said Larry Sorrell.  "I think they're waking up to the face that they're going to have to stand up and not be the silent majority anymore."

Both of Utah's Senators, Representative Rob Bishop, and Attorney General Mark Shurtleff all spoke at the rally.

The rally was reminiscent of the Sagebrush Rebellion of the 1970's and 1980's when county officials would take bulldozers and reopen roads on public lands that had been closed by the Bureau of Land Management.

I was there! I have been to the other rally's (a total of 3) and FINALLY was thrilled with the amount of people who showed up and supported this great cause. The important facts that were raised didn't make it on TV. Which by the way the air time was paid for by the groups that came together for this event. It doesn't matter about politicians and all the dribble. What matters is joining forces to keep our roads open, educating the public about staying on the designated trails and packing out your garbage. If we don't, we will lose the right to ride anywhere! Want to see more on the rally? Watch AT YOUR LEISURE. They will show the footage they took and will do a great job with it.

since utah and it's mormon elected officials didn't vote for or back obama, and want to fight against them rather than work with them, maybe they can give back the federal money which was made possible by taxpayers of all states. im suprised hatch and bennet aren't one of the "birthers". then again maybe they are and we just don't know it

The rally was only a political stunt to boost Mike Noel's fortunes and give Bennett and Hatch another chance to whack the Obama administration. In other states the offroaders are working with the federal land managers, not against them, to get trails designated that can be sustained without damaging the land and wildlife habitat.

I thought your coverage of a VERY important UTAH event was pitiful. We are talking about things that effect every single person in Utah and even in other western states. It is commendable that you covered it live, but we are talking in the middle of the day on a Saturday so not that many people will see it on TV. But your news coverage was atrocious - a little 30 second blurb that showed nothing and said nothing. I would have thought that you would show a lot more concern for reporting the news and actually report on the newscast what happened and what the issues were. BTW you weren't alone - Channel 5 was at least as pitiful and they even had some SUWA idiot explaining how dry weeds burn - DUH!!!!!! Considering how many totally crap stories I see on the news, I think you should be ashamed of your lack of coverage of something that is vital to Utah!!
