WASHINGTON (ABC 4 News) - The White House announced that President Obama has signed a disaster declaration for the wind storm that swept across Davis and Weber Counties on December 1, 2011.

According to a White House news release, Obama declared that a major disaster exists as a cause of the storm in which winds of more than 100 mph ripped into homes and businesses.

The declaration allows for Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by a severe storm.

The announcement said that federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storm in Davis County.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

FEMA said additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
