OREM Utah (ABC4 News) – Dr. Joseph Berg and his girlfriend died in their bedroom.
According to his father, he called 911 Monday around noon telling them what he had found.
ABC 4 News obtained a copy of the 911 call Wednesday.
After identifying himself he is heard telling dispatch the following:
Dispatcher: "Okay, what's the problem?"
Caller: "My son lives at this house and I had an appointment with the attorney to pick him up to take him to his attorney and I just came into the house and walked into the bedroom. He and his girlfriend are both dead in bed. Stone cold dead."
Police later say former Doctor Joseph Berg and Lucy Schwartz are the couple inside the home.
Berg was released from jail Thursday following four months in jail for kidnapping Schwartz. The kidnapping also resulted in Schwartz being beaten and tied up in a closet at the home last November.
His father was convinced the couple was dead.
Dispatcher: "Do you believe they are beyond help?"
Caller: "Well, refrigerator cold."
Dispatcher: "Okay, they are cold?"
He gave the dispatcher their ages. Bert was 48 and Schwartz 49. The dispatcher told him that help was on the way. But she also asked him one more time:
Dispatcher: "And you believe they are beyond help?"
Dispatcher: "Okay. And you're certain we should not try to resuscitate them?"
Caller: "Oh I don't know, if somebody comes out and thinks they can, I would love it if you can."
Dispatcher: "Do you want me to help you and start …"
Caller: "No, I mean they're clearly dead."
Dispatcher: "Okay, that's what I'm saying are you certain that we should not try that I should not help you? … CPR or anything?"
Caller: "No. They're cold and in rigor."
The dispatcher then asked more questions about Berg and Schwartz. She wanted to know if he could see any signs that may have caused their death.
Dispatcher: "Do they have any obvious injuries on them?"
Dispatcher: "No obvious injuries?"
Caller: "Not that I saw. I didn't want to disturb them. I just touched them and said 'oh my goodness.'"
An autopsy was conducted Tuesday but Orem police have not released any information about what they’ve discovered.
